Mount Abu, a picturesque hill station verdant with lush green forests is an oasis in the arid land of Rajasthan. It is said that Rishi Vasishtha created four agnikula clans of Rajputs from a fire pit by performing a 'yajna' or fire sacrifice. The 'yajna was performed beside a spring emerging from a rock shaped like the head of a cow. Thus the name "gaumukh" is attributed to that place.

Mount Abu is more than just a summer retreat. It is a holy site of pilgrimage for the Jains as well as the Hindus. It houses one of the marvelous pieces of Indian architecture, the Dilwara Jain Temples. Besides these magnificent temples, Mount Abu is also the home of Gaumukh temples, Adhar Devi temple and Raghunathji Temple. There is a lot to Mount Abu besides these places of religious significance.
