Umaid Bhawan Palace is the private residence of the family of Maharaja Umed Singh, after whom the palace is named.
The people of the city of Jodhpur refer to Umaid Bhawan Palace as Chittar Mahal. The palace was constructed without using cement and mortar. The interlocks were formed by uniformly cut and chiseled blocks of sandstones.
This royal abode has lavish curves. A part of Umaid Bhawan Palace was converted in 1972 in a heritage hotel. The hotel is a luxury hotel adorned with classic furniture, beautiful antiques and other marvels. The other two sections of Umaid Bhawan Palace are the museum and the royal abode of the royal family. The head of the family now is Maharaja Gaj Singh II.
