Salim Singh Ki Haveli is located in the heart of the city close to the Railway Station. The splendid Haveli adorn the east of Jaisalmer. Salim Singh Ki Haveli speaks of the grand past of Jaisalmer.The Haveli was constructed on another Haveli which belongs to the later half of 17th century. The new Haveli was constructed in 1815. The Haveli stands with grandiose with a unique roof which is built like a peacock. The Haveli has beautiful murals, screen windows and fine stone carvings.
The walls of Salim Singh Ki Haveli are adorned with brackets which are chiseled with delicacy mirroring the superb craftsmanship of the artisans. The hallways, the rooms and the corridors are massive and lavish. There are murals on the wall which exude style and grace.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli is a medieval mansion built by Salim Singh, the Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. The Haveli sits near the Jaislamer Fort in the backdrop of hills. One legend about Salim Singh Ki Haveli is that it was made as high as the height of the Fort but due to objection of Maharaja, the extra stories were destructed.
Tusker guard the gateways of the Haveli.There are 38 balconies in Salim Singh Ki Haveli and all boasts of unique designs. From the front the Haveli looks like a ship so the Haveli is also known as Jahazmahal.
For decades Salim Singh Ki Haveli is the residence to the Mohta family. The Mohta family is the family of ministers who served the royal court of Jaisalmer.
Today Salim Singh Ki Haveli is included in the national heritage of India.
