Patwon Ji Ki Haveli is located in a slim alley close to Patwa Complex. The architecture of Patwon Ji Ki Haveli is interesting. You will be amazed to discover that Patwon Ji Ki Haveli is not one single building but consists of small five havelis. The first haveli is the largest and the grandest, constructed by Guman Chand Patwa in the year 1805. The story goes like this. Being a famous trader and a rich person Patwa ordered to construct separate stories for his sons. He had five sons; the height of Patwon Ji Ki Haveli is five storeys. The construction went on for 50 years. The building was completed in the first half of 19th century.
The Patwa were merchants of brocade, they dealt with silver and gold threads. They invested their wealth to make this gorgeous Haveli in the gorgeous city of Jaisalmer.
Patwon Ji Ki Haveli is one of the most beautiful, large and elaborate Haveli in the city of Jaisalmer. The carvings of the Haveli are exquisite. Today Patwon Ji Ki Havel is divided into apartments, six in number. Archaeological Survey of India owns two; families operating craft shops own two apartments and the other two apartments are private homes. The inside walls of the Patwon Ji Ki Haveli blaze with beautiful mirror work and paintings.
The pillars of Patwon Ji Ki Haveli is superbly carved, the chambers and corridors are expansive. There are lovely murals painted in one of the apartments of Patwon Ji Ki Haveli. The balconies or ‘jharokhas’ is one of the most eye-catching features of the Haveli.
