Dungarpur, popularly known as the "city of hills" is a picturesque town perched on the hill tops of the Aravalli mountain ranges. Situated about 110 Kilometers south of Udaipur, it was established in the 13th century by a faction of the Mewar dynasty who had decided to split their ways. Dungarpur reached its prime under the governance of the Guhilot Ahara Suryavanshi Rajputs. The place is famous for its palaces painted with beautiful frescoes. It houses such marvels of Rajasthani architecture like the Deo Somnath temple, and the well maintained Rajmata Devendra Kanwar Museum. It is the home of such magnificent structure as the Udai Bilas Palace.

Besides being a bird watcher's paradise the Gaib Sagar Lake also has religious significance for the Hindus. The famous shrine of Srinathji lies along the bank of the lake. The shrine is an aggregation of many aesthetically built temples with one main temple. The temple known as the Bijay Raj Rajeshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thousand of devotees come to pay their homage to Lord Shiva, each year. The architecture and sculpture of the temple is a perfect representative of the brilliant craftsmanship of the shilips of Dungarpur. The Gaib Sagar Lake looks over another brilliantly made structure, that of the Udai Bilas Palace situated on its banks,
