Dungarpur is one of the 32 districts of Rajasthan and is also a major tourist attraction of Rajasthan. Dungarpur district is inhabited by Bheel, a tribe whose history of occupancy of the Aravalli range go back to around 4000 B.C. Dungarpur town was established in the year 1335 by Rawal Veer Singh, in the memory of Dungaria's widows. The rulers of Dungarpur claim to be the descendants of Rajput rulers of Mewar.
One of the principal tourist attractions in Dungarpur includes Juna Mahal. The palace has seven storeys and was built in different phases during the period from 13th and 18th century. The palace is inhabited by many old paintings. The Aam khas, or the main living room is characterized by stunning mirror work and glass decorations. Juna Mahal with its beautiful overviews of the town makes the most visited tourist attraction of Dungarpur.
Udai Bilas Palace is another principal tourist attraction of Dungarpur. The palace is surrounded by Gaib Sagar Lake on one hand and a private reserve forest on the other. Presently Udai Bilas Palace is converted to a world heritage hotel that offers excellent scenic beauty and is an ideal place for honeymoon. Spellbound Rajput architecture characterizes this paradise.
Gaib Sagar Lake is famous for watching migratory birds that flock around the lake during winters. Along the lake lies the holy shrine of Srinathji which is a collection of temples with one main temple.
