Dargah Sharif is one of the most historically valued and sacred shrines in India. Darga Sharif is the tomb of the Muslim saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. He was a Sufi Saint who dedicated his life for the betterment of the poor people.

Located below the Taragarh hill, Dargah Sharif consists of two courtyards. The marble buildings are situated around the twin courtyards. The massive gate is a donation by the Nizam of Hyderabad. There are beautiful silver doors in the gate. Dargah Sharif has an architecture in which generations of Mughal emperors has contributed a lot. The tomb of Moinuddin Chisti is surrounded by a marble screen and a silver railing. The tomb is of marble and the dome is plated with gold.
There is mosque, Akbari Masjid which was donated by Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor.Emperor. Akbar every year went for pilgrimages to Dargah Sharif with his queen. In the road from Agra to Ajmer large pillars were constructed for the royal people. Some of the pillars are still there.
Urs is held every year in commemoration of the memories of khwaza Moinuddin Chisti. It is believed that the saint locked himself and prayed and his spirit left his body. He was 114 years old then. A large number of devotees come to Dargah Sharif during Urs. Enormous quantity of food is cooked and is served to the devotees. The people who cook serve standing in the scorching hot cauldrons.
The devotees offer ‘nazrana’ at the sacred tomb of the saint. The ‘nazrana’ consists of jasmine and rose flowers, perfumes, incense and sandalwood paste.
Outside the holy shrine the ‘qawwals’, professional singers sit and sing hymns dedicated to the saint. The fragrant shrine and the divine singing create a serene and beautiful ambience.
